Google Earth is an amazing tool. There are a few ways students can navigate around in Google Earth. They can use the on-screen controls to pan and zoom around the globe. They can type in a latitude and longitude, and the camera view will zoom in on that point. These are easy ways to do things, but they’re not a lot of fun. Now there’s another option, and this one is fun. It’s also a great way to get a new perspective on things. It’s the Google Earth Flight Simulator. Most flight simulators are games – they’re one of the most popular types of PC game – and often the landscapes you fly over exist only in the game. They’re always limited in size. The Google Earth Flight Simulator is different. In it you’re flying over real landscapes, and you can go anywhere in the world. What you can do with it is only limited by your imagination; recreate historic flights, experience a pilot’s eye view of airline routes or buzz famous landmarks. The Google Earth flight simulator is a lot easier to use than some of the high-end military simulators on the market. If you have a joystick you can plug that in and fly; if not you can just use your keyboard. The controls are realistic enough to give you a good idea what it’s like to fly a real plane without taking forever to learn. Of course like any flight simulator, if you just jump straight in the chances are you’re going to crash a lot. It’s best to start by learning how it works and what all the controls do; then you can start enjoying yourself right away. This booklet will show you how. The booklet also includes various missions and activities to complete in order to practice the skills .... as well as learn about interesting historical and geographical facts.
