This is a journal in which students can record new/unknown words they come across in their reading. Students have an educated guess at the word's meaning and then record the correct definition in their own words. Throughout the booklet there are several application tasks for students to complete. There is space for 50 words, making this is a great resource to be handed out at the start of a novel study or simply as an ongoing weekly reading task for any text you're focussing on in class.
