Often whilst instructing horse riding, it is necessary to have some games that are played with students to keep them occupied, whilst at the same time teaching them new skills. Included in this document are three games that can be played with riders of varying ages and skill levels. Page 1: Skills to be learnt: balance and mobility on a horse’s back; game time: 1 – 5 minutes Page 2: Skills to be learnt: communicating with other riders, changes of pace and direction, using aids to communicate with horses; game time: 5 – 20 minutes Page 3: Skills to be learnt: counting steps on a horse, control of varying gaits (walk, trot, and canter), extension at the walk, trot or canter; game time: 5 – 10 minutes Created by Christine Meunier
