A whole unit of work supporting the learning and implementation of the 'i-e' spelling family. Classroom tested and differentiated for the whole class to use, the activities include - introducing, practicing, using and consolidating learning the ‘i-e’ sound. Incorporating different thinking skills will give the students an opportunity to learn in different ways. In this book of black-line masters, you will find activities that require cutting and pasting and physical manipulation of the words to help children learn in as many ways as possible. Rhyming words, changing words, editing and converting short vowel sounds to long vowel sounds are some of the activities, plus, make your own class chart, are all incorporated in this unit of work. Concentrating on the ‘i-e’ diagraph, the skills involved are repetitive with easy to read instructions to assist in developing independence from the students. Some of the activities that follow could be used for independent workers or children who might need a challenge but still need to be part of whole class activities.
