This resource has been aligned to the Year 7 Australian Curriculum learning outcomes. However, it could be used for any class looking at studying the importance of water supply within communities.
It has the students researching and comparing communities with an abundant supply of water compared to those with limited resources.
Students then go on to design and create their own township. They use mapping skills to find the best location for the town, looking at nearby communities, existing roads and infrastructure.
This has been designed to be used with Australia as the basis of the research, but could easily be modified to another country.
Approximate length of time: Between 9 - 15 lessons. Assessment sheet inclueded.
Students could then go on to build their town in a technology lesson.
