H.E.A.R.T. (Have Every Age Read Together) is a reading intervention program I have produced for my struggling older readers. It is run by volunteers and I use this powerpoint to train the volunteers. I have trialled this program with older struggling readers with great success. It is a research based program that fosters the love of reading. As students who are struggling have a low reading esteem and lack motivation to read the HEART reading program fosters high success reading by finding books that interest the students and are at the appropriate level. This is a powerpoint that could be used to train volunteers or inform parents. The powerpoint includes:- *What good readers do. *What struggling readers do. *Components of the program (sight words, reading aloud and comprehension). *Research on sight words. *Book selection guide which includes the Five Finger Rule, reading a "just right book" and 100 word grid for volunteers. *Comprehension strategies and questions. *Reinforced reading using PPP (Pause, Prompt, Praise) and *Reading Strategies and Tips. The free resource in my store "Comprehension Strategies" (Summarise, Clarify, Question and Predict) which includes a book mark as wella s the "Reading Interest Survey" were used in the HEART program.
