Thinking Tools to Support Indepedent Readers (Australian Version)
This is a set of tools and activities based on Goals from the Fountas and Pinnell Literacy Continuum. The tasks are based on Thinking WITHIN the text, Thinking BEYOND the text and Thinking ABOUT the text.
This set includes 30+ tasks for: Thinking Within the Text -solving words -monitoring and correcting -searching for and using information -summarising -adjusting
Thinking Beyond the Text -predicting -making connections -synthesising -inferring
Thinking About the Text = analysing -critiquing
The tasks are focused on reading and thinking so often a lot of writing is not required. They are great for sharing thinking and guiding students to deepen their understanding.
They include a sheet with instructions and without and could even be enlarged for students to add individual sticky notes to after independent reading time or during guided reading.
They are based on goals from text Level S+ and can be used for any book and easily used below this level to support deeper thinking.
