The workbook offers activities and useful strategies to help children to count and write numerals.
Some children do not generalise, they cannot move from counting real objects to a symbolic level. They do not relate a numeral to a mental picture of a group of objects. They have to learn to count and write numbers to sets of pictures.
We use pictures for counting, as the pictures are stable, they do not move, they can be touched without being scattered, they can be crossed, or circled.
Children learn better if the writing is accompanied by a meaningful verbal commentary, specific to each numeral. The sequential kinaesthetic visual—motor steps connected with key guide words are included.
