Visual Memory
Visual Memory is the ability to remember what is seen for immediate recall. It involves forming a mental image or picture of the characteristics of any given visual stimulus once the stimulus has been removed.
In the “Face Memory” worksheets, the student must form a mental image of the face on the first page, in order to identify the correct facial features on the second page.
Visual Discrimination
Visual Discrimination is the ability to identify differences and similarities between two or more visual stimuli by analyzing their individual characteristics and distinctive features.
In the “Face Memory” worksheets, the student must compare the three options for each facial feature on the second page and note the differences, in order to identify which one is the same as that which was observed on the first page.
Figure Ground
Figure Ground perception is the ability to screen out any irrelevant visual material when presented with a lot of visual information at one time (to locate the important stimulus without getting confused by the background or surrounding images). This skill is key for good attention and concentration.
To complete the “Face Memory” worksheets successfully, the student must attend to each of the facial features in turn - not get lost or confused in the detail of all the facial features.
