Visual Perceptual Skills Addressed:
Visual Memory
Visual Memory is the ability to remember what is seen for immediate recall. It involves forming a mental image or picture of the characteristics of any given shape, symbol, object or pattern once the stimulus has been removed.
In the “Removed Picture Memory” worksheets, the student must form a mental image of each picture on the first page, in order to recall them when they are no longer visible. In so doing, the student will be able to identify which picture is missing on the second page.
Figure Ground
Figure Ground perception is the ability to screen out any irrelevant visual material when presented with a lot of visual information at one time (to locate the important stimulus without getting confused by the background or surrounding images). This skill is key for good attention and concentration.
To successfully search for each of the pictures that were seen on the first page when presented with the second page in “Removed Picture Memory” worksheets, the student must attend to one picture at a time within the busy field of all the other surrounding pictures.
