Visual Memory
Visual Memory is the ability to remember what is seen for immediate recall. It involves forming a mental image or picture of the characteristics of any given visual stimulus once the stimulus has been removed.
In the “Memory Blocks Designs 4x4” worksheets, the student must form a mental image of each design (recall the position of the lines), in order to correctly reproduce the design once it is no longer visible.
Spatial Relationships
Spatial Relationships perception is the ability to identify the position of two or more visual stimuli in relation to oneself and/or in relation to each other.
In the “Memory Block Designs 4x4” worksheets, the student must analyze the position of the blocks and how the lines are positioned within each block. They must then identify the correct corresponding blocks to copy the lines to.
Figure Ground
Figure Ground perception is the ability to screen out any irrelevant visual material when presented with a lot of visual information at one time (to locate the important stimulus without getting confused by the background or surrounding images). This skill is key for good attention and concentration.
To complete the “Memory Block Designs 4x4” worksheets successfully, the student must focus on one block/line at a time within the busy field of all the other blocks/lines on the page.
Visual Motor Integration
Visual Motor Integration relates to the coordination of visual perceptual skills with body movement (the use of visual information to guide a motor task). For fine motor tasks, the eyes inform the arm and hand muscles where to go like "follow the leader”, so that motor output matches visual input.
