Visual Perceptual Skills Addressed:
Visual Memory
Visual Memory is the ability to remember what is seen for immediate recall. It involves forming a mental image or picture of the characteristics of any given shape, symbol, object or pattern once the stimulus has been removed.
In the “Memory Missing Design Part” worksheets, the student must form a mental image of the design on the left side, in order to recall the details of the design when it is no longer visible. In so doing, the student will be able to identify what is missing.
Figure Ground
Figure Ground perception is the ability to screen out any irrelevant visual material when presented with a lot of visual information at one time (to locate the important stimulus without getting confused by the background or surrounding images). This skill is key for good attention and concentration.
In order to complete “Memory Missing Design Part” worksheets successfully, the student must attend to all the details of the design without getting lost or confused.
Visual Motor Integration
Visual Motor Integration relates to the coordination of visual perceptual skills with body movement (the use of visual information to guide a motor task). For fine motor tasks, the eyes inform the arm and hand muscles where to go like "follow the leader”, so that motor output matches visual input.
In the “Memory Missing Design Part” worksheets, the student's eyes must guide their hand in order to draw in the missing lines in a fluid and controlled manner.
Visual Closure
Visual Closure is the ability to recognize any given visual stimulus from an incomplete presentation (part of the stimulus is missing). The ability to identify what we are seeing without having to analyze every detail enables us to process information in our environment quickly.
In the “Memory Missing Design Part” worksheets, the student must fill in the missing pieces in the design on the right side in order to complete it.
