Shapes exist throughout our environment. The ability to identify common shapes is an important skill. In the “Count Basic Shapes” worksheets, the student must identify the shape specified in the question in amongst all the other shapes.

Form Constancy
Form Constancy is the ability to recognize any given visual stimulus as the same despite changes in its presentation, such as, size, color, texture, direction, orientation or context.
In the “Count Basic Shapes” worksheets, the student must identify the shape that is specified in the question, despite changes in its presentation (different angles/positions, different sizes).
Visual Discrimination
Visual Discrimination is the ability to identify differences and similarities between two or more visual stimuli by analyzing their individual characteristics and distinctive features.
In the “Count Basic Shapes” worksheets, the student must compare the features of similar looking shapes, for example, circle/oval or square/rectangle, in order to distinguish between them.
Figure Ground
Figure Ground perception is the ability to screen out any irrelevant visual material when presented with a lot of visual information at one time (to locate the important stimulus without getting confused by the background or surrounding images). This skill is key for good attention and concentration.
To search for the shape that is specified in the question in the “Count Basic Shapes” worksheets, the student must focus in on that particular shape within the busy field of all the other surrounding shapes.
