Figure Ground perception is the ability to screen out any irrelevant visual material when presented with a lot of visual information at one time (to locate the important stimulus without getting confused by the background or surrounding images). This skill is key for good attention and concentration.
In the “Letter Cross Pattern” worksheets, the student must focus on the pattern that is highlighted in the instruction within the busy field of all the other surrounding patterns as they scan the rows. The student’s eyes must move from left to right along each row (not deviate up or down).
Visual Discrimination
Visual Discrimination is the ability to identify differences and similarities between two or more visual stimuli by analyzing their individual characteristics and distinctive features.
In the “Letter Cross Pattern” worksheets, the student must compare any letters that may be similar to the letters that they are looking for, in order to distinguish between them.
Spatial Relationships
Spatial Relationships perception is the ability to identify the position of two or more visual stimuli in relation to oneself and/or in relation to each other.
