Visual Perceptual Skills Addressed:
Figure Ground
Figure Ground perception is the ability to screen out any irrelevant visual material when presented with a lot of visual information at one time (to locate the important stimulus without getting confused by the background or surrounding images). This skill is key for good attention and concentration.
In the “Animal Scanning” worksheets, the student must focus on the animal that is highlighted in the instruction within the busy field of all the other surrounding animals as they scan the rows. The student’s eyes must move from left to right along each row (not deviate up or down).
Visual Discrimination
Visual Discrimination is the ability to identify differences and similarities between two or more visual stimuli by analyzing their individual characteristics and distinctive features.
In the “Animal Scanning” worksheets, the student must compare the features of any animals that are similar to the animal that they are looking for, in order to distinguish between them.
