Visual Sequential Memory is the ability to remember and recall a sequence of visual images such as letters, shapes, numbers, symbols or objects in the correct order.
In the “Picture Sequences” worksheets, the student must form a mental image of the sequence on the first page, in order to number the butterflies/birds/fish in the same order on the second page when the sequence in no longer visible.
Visual Discrimination
Visual Discrimination is the ability to identify differences and similarities between shapes, symbols, objects or patterns, by analyzing their individual characteristics and distinctive features.
In the “Picture Sequences” Worksheets, the student needs to compare the features of any similar looking butterflies/birds/fish on the second page, in order to distinguish between them.
Figure Ground
Figure Ground perception is the ability to screen out any irrelevant visual material when presented with a lot of visual information at one time (not confusing the background or any surrounding images with the important stimulus). This skill is key for good attention and concentration.
In order to complete the “Picture Sequences” worksheets successfully, the student must find the butterflies/birds/fish that they saw on the first page within the busy field of all the other surrounding butterflies/birds/fish on the second page.
